Death of a Day.

I refuse to justify the waning of the day
No matter that the sunset is a glorious blaze
.
It is the death of daylight.
Spilling its lifeblood into the sky.

No matter that the stars are bright.
They shed precious little light.
To illuminate the black of night.

I cannot accept this death of daytime.
The moon, a melancholy globe,
Does nothing to assuage.
I’ll mourn ‘til morn.

Frankly my dear, I do not understand the poem.

Sure, daylight disappears here everyday also but I don't see it as dying. It's just visiting other parts of the rock being as it rotates.

Shoot, if the rock stopped turning it would be daylight here all the time and I couldn't share it with you over there.

The moon I don't pay much attention to, but sometimes it's bright enough to be helpful to see better at night.

And I'z gots sum of dat artificial light to brighten my life when the day is visiting your side of da rock.

Well, and a little beer, ha ha ha

Mutter, mutter.

*smack*

Oh hell, don't pay any attention to me, I tend to look at things in pretty analytical ways, being as some of those things I can't change anyway.

What you really need is for me to hold you in the dark.

Boy, I sure am full of myself, ha ha ha ha ha

It's a metaphor Billy.

An analytical person like me is supposed to care about and understand a metaphor?

A hug I understand, metaphors are confusing to me.

oh so sad cathy - there's beauty in both

Cathy,
I just read your comment on my blog and your poem put me in mind of
"Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

My heart is with you.

If I knew how to write a metaphor I write one about you, but I'm a metaphor idiot.

And if you wasn't married I would flirt more with you, write something for you like, oh, I don't know, something like....

Come, stand with me, by the sea.
Hold my hand and be as me.
Be one, as we.
Be we, as one.
Come, stand with me, by the sea.

I suppose that is about the best poem I've ever wrote, but at least it was from the heart.

Hey, is that a metaphor?

Na, I guess not, even though I can't figure out just what exactly a metaphor is.

I'd better stick to fixing cars and building homes and going camping.

Thankyou lime I quite like that bit myself:)

Logophile - You hit the nail on the head my poem is raging about death.

"Do not go gentle into that good night, Rage rage against the dying of the light" - Dylan Thomas.

That's beautiful. Good to see you back. I hope 2010 will be better for you.

my poem is raging about death.

A metaphor is now a poem? Too damn many words on this rock.

As for death, it's not much of a concept to an omnipresent spirit that accepts that the death of one silly little body is not something to get all worked up about.

Val - Thanks and Happy New Year.

My beloved Mother in Law died at 8pm last night. God rest her soul.

I'm going to assume that she died with grace and dignity. And that she is at peace in death as there is great peace in that.

Hon, you didn't lose anything, you can pull her spirit near you anytime you like, she gained her freedom from this place.

I'm actually looking forward to my freedom from this mess.

Going to throw a wake for her? They are happy things, I want my passing to be a big happy party for those I leave behind.

Oh Cathy, I just read your post-script from the 12th.

I'm so glad she had you.
I hope and pray your warm memories of her crowd out the pain and loss.

Hugs to you!
