Sink or Swim

She hadn’t noticed the water rising,
cutting her off from the mainland.

Now she was trapped,
standing on a patch of rapidly shrinking solid ground.

The midday sun,
which had warmed her gently in the morning,
burned down fiercely
adding discomfort to fear.

Today she would learn how to swim or she would drown.

Sounds like the story of many women's lives.

Excellent 55!

Reminds me how I learned to swim when I was 3 years old: my father threw me in the water.

She could pile the smaller rocks on top of the larger ones

Thus, adhering to the advice presented in Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground"

That's my fear - drowning.

I like the picture and your words.
At first I thought she was a mermaid but I guess they already know how to swim.

Don't fight the waves. You'll float if you let yourself x

(((Cathy))))

I think I doggy paddled
my way through; just enough
to keep afloat; neither
swimming nor sinking, but
drowning was never an option;
it's not for you either
